Ecological Artist
Ana Flores is an award winning sculptor, and ecological designer. For two decades she has been promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and groundbreaking collaborations between the arts, sciences and humanities. These have included sculptural installations, programming that engages people with the cultural and natural history of their local landscapes and the design of two parks. One of these public art projects Poetry of the Wild, has continued to travel throughout the United States for over a decade. She is now at work on a book about the history and lessons learned from Poetry of the Wild.
Since 2004 Flores has also been addressing Cuba’s history; the island is her homeland. The Cuba series, Cuba Journal and The Island Draws Me, are multi media sculptural installations that have traveled to museums and galleries in the U.S and abroad. In 2016-2017 she will be Artist in Residence at Brown University preparing a sculptural installation on how slavery connected Rhode Island and Cuba.
Flores has also taught at the Rhode Island School of Design where she created community-centered courses and one of the first courses in the country on Arts and Healing. She now teaches Ecological Art and Design at Bryant University.
