Maine in summertime

Summer weather in Maine can be fairly erratic! It can range from very hot on some days to quite cold (even as low as 40°F) during the evenings. It may be clear and sunny some days or rainy and chilly on others. Come prepared for this variety!

Recommended items

Along with the necessities listed below, remember to pack a sense of adventure and a good sense of humor. Be sure to bring festive clothes and finery to wear for our banquet at the end of the week, as well as for the opening of the Art Gallery.

Musical instruments and art supplies are always welcome, and highly encouraged!

This list encompasses items that are not provided by the Conference or by the camp, so attendees are strongly encouraged to bring the following:

  • Warm sleeping bag or blankets - Maine gets cold at night even in summer!

  • Twin sheets, pillow(s), and pillowcase(s)

  • A clothes line, hangers, clothespins, sheets, linens, scarves, sarongs, and/or hanging tapestries for beautifying and adding privacy to your bunk area

  • Basic toiletries

  • Two towels: one for showers, and one for swimming (even if you do not plan to swim in the lake, it is good to bring two, as they can dry slowly on rainy days)

  • Earplugs (statistically, snorers outnumber non-snorers 2:1!)

  • Rapid antigen COVID-19 tests: We ask you to test upon arrival and again 2-3 days after arrival - please bring extras if you have them!

  • High-quality masks for respiratory illness, allergies, and browntail moth hairs

  • Hydrocortisone cream and other OTC care for itching and discomfort due to insects or plant contact

  •  A tick spoon or tweezers

  • A variety of comfortable clothes for warm and cold weather, warm coat(s), sweaters, layers

  • A reusable mug for coffee/tea throughout the day

  • Festive clothing, for the art gallery opening gala and the banquet at the end of the week– get creative!

  • A bathing suit (the lake is darn cold, but refreshing!)

  • Hat (for evenings/cold days)

  • Sunglasses

  • A yoga mat, yoga clothing

  •  Good walking shoes and good dancing shoes

  •  Umbrella, rain boots (nice to have on rainy days)

  •  Notebook, journal, sketchbook

  • Handcrafts (knitting, sewing, etc.)

  • Flashlight and extra batteries

  • Sunscreen

  • Insect repellent

  • A water bottle

  •  A reusable name tag

  • Musical instruments – drums! shakers! cow bells!

  •  Gems you are ready to pass on to others for the Silent Auction (what beloved items are you ready to pass to a new loving home?)
